Single-element Variables and Arrays

A single-element variable represents a single data element of either one of the elementary types or one of the derived data types.An array is a collection of data elements of the same data type; in order to access a single element of the array, a subscript (or index) enclosed in square brackets has to be used. Subscripts can be either integer literals or single-element variables.To easily represent data matrices, arrays can be multi-dimensional; in this case, a composite subscript is required, one index per dimension, separated by commas. The maximum number of dimensions allowed in the definition of an array is three.
